  • Oasis International African Center of RI Annual Gala December 18, 2021

    Oasis International - African Center of Rhode Island, a nonprofit located at 600 Broad Street in Providence that promotes and celebrates the varied African cultures in Rhode Island will be celebrating its 2021 scholarship and awards celebration on Saturday December 18, 2021. The theme of the Gala is “Celebrating our Blessings and Sustaining Our Future.” The nonprofit is celebrating nearly 30 years of continuous services to the Southwest community of Providence with a jubilee annual fundraiser to continue youth program services.

    The event will begin at 6 p.m. starting with a cocktail reception and silent art auction at The Rhodes on the Pawtuxet at 60 Rhodes Place in Cranston, Rhode Island followed by a dinner and awards presentation program.Ms. Martha L. Wofford CEO & President of Blue Cross Blue Shield will deliver the keynote address.

    Dr. Ruth Dapaah-Afriyie, Rhode Island Hospital, 2020 RI Pharmacist of the Year, a Board-certified Ambulatory Care Clinical pharmacy specialist with 31 years’ experience in clinical practice with specialization in cardiovascular and endocrine disease state medication management will receive the Oasis International Professional Achievement Award.

    2021 Oasis International Community Service awards will be presented to: Pastor Christopher Abhulime of The King’s Tabernacle Church in Johnston, and RI Governor Dan McKee’s deputy chief of staff and chief equity office: Kyle L. Bennett Director of Public Policy and Equity for United Way of RI and Ms. Bev J. Wiley, Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Warwick will also receive Oasis Community Service awards.

    Ms. Monsurat Ottun Esq. A full time City Solicitor, from the city of Providence will receive the 2021 Oasis International Young Professional Award; Ms. Danlette Norris a legal representative with Dorcas International Institute of RI, will receive the 2021 Presidents Circle Award awarded by the African Community Leadership Forum.

    Oasis International will be awarding college scholarships to year students who have been leaders among their peers. The youth receiving scholarships are TBA. Cultural dancing and live music will be performed and DJ AsaP will also provide music throughout the evening.
